About this survey

This is not a census of all publicly accessible WordPress sites. It is a sample survey of approximately 250,000 sites selected at random. This is not a vulnerability scan: update status is inferred from WordPress version information exposed in HTML and related public responses, without attempting exploitation or directly verifying vulnerability.

Although roughly 1.3 million candidate sites have been identified, the version-usage and unpatched ratios stopped changing meaningfully once a certain sample size was reached (the figures converged), so we publish results from a practical sample of about 250,000 sites. As these are not population-wide totals, please focus on the proportions, such as each version's usage share and the unpatched rate, rather than the absolute site counts.
